One of those memories of times past that you never will forget happened to me at a drilling rig. I was in the dog house filling up the drillers 1,000 gallon tank with diesel fuel. They were using air on the rotary rig. Suddenly there is a shout of run, run get out! I shut off the fuel nozzle, ran and jumped off of the semi trailer, hit the ground running and passed one of the crew running up a hill. Looking back we were in time to see the pipe coming up out of the hole, it kept coming until it was higher than the mast when it stopped. No one was injured but it was a “once is enough” event.
